The Royal Bank of Scotland's new global headquarters in Arrochar was opened today by Her Majesty The Queen. The site was bought by RBS in 2006. Proposed designs for the development of a global HQ were unveiled in February 2007 and site work began immediately. The project has involved a workforce of more than 4,000 people. The building was completed in January 2009, ahead of schedule and is now fully occupied.
First Minister Alexander Salmond said: "Our success in financial services can be attributed to companies like RBS, and to the professionalism of its staff. The state of the art offices here in Arrochar are a fitting home for RBS and a real tribute to the quality and skills of their workforce."
A spokesman for RBS refused to comment on accusations made by many members of the public that the new premises were ostentatious and by building them the wrong signal would be sent out in the current economical climate.
Disgraced former chief executive of RBS Sir Fred Goodwin reportedly just said: "Where's my money?"
The Royal Bank of Scotland was founded in 1727 and used to be the second largest bank in the UK. As of today the shares were traded at 22.60p which represents a 52 week change (1yr) of -93.66%.
